SEND Support Through Music
Music for Every Individual
At Serenity Sensory Music, I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, connection and wellbeing that music can bring.
Every individual is unique, with their own strengths, interests, communication styles, sensory preferences and ways of engaging with the world.
That is why every sensory music session is designed around the person, not their diagnosis.
Whether someone requires additional support with communication, emotional regulation, sensory processing, learning, physical access or social interaction, sessions are carefully adapted to ensure they feel safe, included and able to participate in a way that works for them.
A Truly Inclusive Approach
Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together.
It can create opportunities for connection, communication and self-expression without relying solely on words.
At Serenity Sensory Music, I aim to create an environment where individuals feel:
• Valued
• Accepted
• Supported
• Encouraged
• Celebrated for who they are
There is no right or wrong way to participate.
Some individuals may enjoy singing, playing instruments and taking an active role in creating music. Others may prefer listening, exploring sensory resources or simply experiencing the atmosphere around them.
Every response is meaningful and every contribution is valued.

Supporting a Wide Range of Additional Needs
Throughout my career as a SEND specialist teacher and sensory music practitioner, I have worked with children, young people and adults with a wide range of additional needs, including:
• Autism
• ADHD
• Learning disabilities
• Sensory processing differences
• Communication difficulties
• Physical disabilities
• Developmental delays
• Social, emotional and mental health needs
• Profound and multiple learning disabilities
• Hearing and visual impairments
• Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties
And many other individual strengths, challenges and support needs.
This experience allows me to adapt sessions thoughtfully, ensuring that everyone can access and enjoy the musical experience.
What Sessions May Include
Sessions are personalised and may include:
• Instrument exploration
• Singing and vocal activities
• Rhythm and percussion work
• Musical games and turn-taking
• Sensory resources
• Gentle movement
• Visual themes and projected imagery
• Relaxation activities
• Creative musical improvisation
The focus is always on creating positive experiences that encourage confidence, engagement and enjoyment.

Supporting Communication Through Music
Music can provide a valuable way for individuals to communicate, connect and express themselves.
For some people, music offers opportunities to communicate when words feel difficult.
For others, it can support listening skills, turn-taking, shared attention and social interaction.
Using visual supports, sensory resources, musical cues and flexible approaches, sessions are designed to meet individuals at their own level and encourage meaningful participation.

Building Confidence Through Success
One of the things I love most about sensory music is that success looks different for everyone.
For one person, success may be joining in with a group activity.
For another, it may be trying a new instrument, making eye contact, expressing an emotion through music or simply feeling relaxed enough to participate.
These moments matter.
By creating opportunities for achievable success, music can help individuals build confidence, independence and self-belief over time.
A Safe Space to Be Yourself
Above all else, Serenity Sensory Music is about creating a space where people feel comfortable being themselves.
A space where differences are respected.
A space where music can be explored without pressure or judgement.
A space where every individual is welcomed exactly as they are.
If you would like to find out more about SEND sensory music sessions, I would love to hear from you.
