About Laura
Helping People Feel Calm, Connected and Understood Through Music
Laura Seymour
Hello, I'm Laura Seymour, founder of Serenity Sensory Music.
I am a qualified teacher, musician and sensory music practitioner with a passion for helping children, young people and adults explore emotions, build confidence and improve wellbeing through music.

For over a decade, I have worked with individuals of all ages and abilities, creating safe, welcoming environments where people can express themselves freely and experience the joy of music without pressure or expectation.

Music has always been at the heart of my life. It has provided me with opportunities, friendships, confidence and countless moments of joy.
Through Serenity Sensory Music, I am privileged to share that experience with others and help people discover the powerful connection between music, wellbeing and self-expression.

My Journey
My professional journey began in education.

After completing my teacher training, I specialised in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), working within specialist education settings across Bath and North East Somerset.

Since 2014, I have supported pupils from primary age through to post-16 education, working with a wide range of needs, abilities and communication styles.

Throughout my teaching career, one thing became increasingly clear. Music had a unique ability to reach people in ways that words sometimes could not.

I saw how music could calm anxiety, support emotional regulation, encourage communication and create meaningful connections. Whether working with a child experiencing sensory overwhelm, a young person struggling with confidence, or an adult needing a safe space to express themselves, music consistently opened doors.

This passion ultimately led me to create Serenity Sensory Music.
My Approach
At Serenity Sensory Music, every session is personalised.

No two people are the same, and no two sessions should be either.
I take time to understand each individual, their interests, strengths, sensory preferences and goals. Sessions are then carefully adapted to provide the right balance of structure, creativity and flexibility.

Using music, movement, sensory experiences, instruments, visual themes and creative exploration, I create opportunities for individuals to:

• Build confidence
• Develop communication skills
• Explore emotions safely
• Improve emotional regulation
• Strengthen social interaction
• Experience relaxation and enjoyment

Most importantly, I strive to create a space where people feel accepted, valued and celebrated for exactly who they are.

Throughout my career I have worked with individuals with a wide range of additional needs, including:

• Autism
• ADHD
• Sensory Processing Differences
• Anxiety
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs
• Eating Disorders
• Learning Disabilities
• Communication Difficulties
• Developmental Delays
• Physical Disabilities
• Down Syndrome
• Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia
• Hearing and Visual Impairments
• Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities
• Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
• Tourette Syndrome

And many other complex and individual presentations.

This experience has taught me that every person is unique and that meaningful support begins with understanding the individual rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis.
Music Has Always Been My Passion
Alongside my teaching career, I have maintained a lifelong passion for music and performance.
I am a violinist, singer and experienced musician who has participated in and led a variety of musical groups, orchestras and choirs throughout my life.

My musical training includes study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I completed my Bachelor of Music degree, alongside advanced performance and instrumental teaching qualifications.

Music continues to be a huge part of my life, both professionally and personally, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with the individuals and families I support.

6 Things You Might Not Know
About Me

My Favourite Instrument
The violin will always have a special place in my heart. It has been part of my life for many years and has opened the door to so many wonderful opportunities and experiences.
That said, I have a little secret...
I absolutely love percussion instruments and drums! There is something incredibly satisfying about creating rhythms, exploring different sounds and feeling the energy that percussion can bring to a musical experience.

My Favourite Sensory Resource
One of my favourite sensory resources is surprisingly simple: handheld spiky massage balls.
They are comforting, provide firm sensory feedback and can be incredibly effective for releasing tension and supporting regulation. They are often one of the first resources I reach for when helping someone feel grounded and calm.
Sometimes the simplest resources can have the biggest impact.

I Love Being Near Water
If I need to relax and recharge, you'll almost certainly find me near water.
Whether it's the sea, a river, a lake or a gentle stream, I find water incredibly calming. I love the sound of waves and flowing water, the fresh air and the sense of peace that comes from simply sitting and listening.
Much like music, water has a way of slowing everything down and helping us reconnect with the present moment.

Why I Started Serenity Sensory Music
I have seen first-hand the difference music can make to people's lives.
Throughout my career, I have watched music help individuals communicate, build confidence, regulate emotions, reduce anxiety and experience moments of genuine joy and connection.
I created Serenity Sensory Music because I wanted to make those experiences more accessible to others.
My hope is that every person who attends a session feels safe, valued and understood, and leaves having experienced the positive impact that music can have on wellbeing.
Looking to the future, I am particularly passionate about continuing to develop my work with adults experiencing mental health and wellbeing difficulties, helping more people discover the therapeutic benefits of music in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Music That Inspires Me
If I could only listen to one piece of music for the rest of my life, it would be The End by Harry Gregson-Williams from the film Man on Fire.
At over nine minutes long, it takes you on an incredible musical journey. I love the variety of sounds, the cinematic power of the music and the way it continually evolves and builds emotion throughout the piece.
For me, it perfectly demonstrates how music can tell a story without using a single word.

My Dream Sensory Room
One of my biggest dreams for the future is to create a dedicated sensory music space where individuals and families can feel completely relaxed, safe and free to be themselves.
When I imagine this space, I picture a room that feels calm from the moment you walk through the door.
A room with blackout curtains scattered with stars, soft lighting that gently changes colour to match the theme of the session, and a large projector transforming the walls into immersive sensory experiences. One week we might be exploring the depths of the ocean, while the next we could be journeying through space or wandering through an enchanted forest.
Comfort is just as important as creativity. I imagine a cosy sofa with a navy blue blanket, soft teal cushions and welcoming spaces where people can pause, relax and simply enjoy being present.
Around the edges of the room, there would be a carefully chosen collection of instruments waiting to be explored, from calming chimes and ocean drums to vibrant percussion and interactive musical resources. The centre of the room would remain open, providing space for movement, creativity, connection and self-expression.
Accessibility is also incredibly important to me. My dream sensory room would be fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and able to participate.
Most importantly, I want this space to feel like a sanctuary, somewhere people can step away from the demands of everyday life, explore music without judgement and experience moments of calm, confidence and joy.
This vision is already beginning to take shape, and I am excited about the opportunities it will create for supporting children, adults and families through the power of music in the years ahead.
