Musical Studies:
Studies have shown that live music and lullabies have a soothing effect on parents and babies. Live music can positively impact vital signs, improve feeding behaviours and suckling patterns in infants, and may increase periods of calm, quiet–alert states.
Processing music and a variety of sounds can support brain development, forming and connecting neural pathways in the brain.
Making music can be immensely comforting, reduce stress and anxiety levels for both parent and baby.

Music is my passion and I am very excited to share a unique, therapeutic approach to music making without the need for referral.

1) Parent & Baby Workshops

Promoting positive bonds between parent/carer and babies 3 months

For: babies 3 months to walking

In these 45 minute sessions (with spaces for 6 parents/carers and 6 babies), I invite parents/carers to bring along their bundle of joy and spend some time immersed in music.

Babies from around 3 months of age love Serenity Sensory Music Sessions.

You can attend these classes with your bundle of joy until they are walking or are confident enough to join in with the more active toddlers in the toddlers class.

Babies enjoy the calming introduction to musical instruments and singing. These sensory baby workshops involve:

  • gentle sitting songs,

  • gentle tactile actions and movements that you can do with your baby,

  • whilst using a variety of percussion,

  • toys

  • and bubbles.

Gentle movements include: bouncing, tapping, lifting, carrying, as well as cuddling and tickling.

Parents/Carers can join in as much as they like - research shows that the more enthusiastic you are, the more your baby will benefit.

2) Parent & Toddler Workshops

Making Music Fun!

For: infants that are walking to aged 4.

In these 45 minute sessions (with spaces for 6 parents/carers and 6 toddlers), I invite parents to bring along their bundle of joy and spend some time immersed in music.

This is a fun filled, bouncy workshop perfect for walkers up to the age of 4 years old.

Toddlers are intrigued by the world around them, they enjoy:

  • listening to music,

  • bouncing around

  • whilst exploring the instruments and different sounds that they make.

Toddlers enjoy moving, sitting and action songs, including nursery rhymes like:

  • 'Old MacDonald',

  • 'Incy Wincy Spider'

  • and '5 little ducks went out one day'

  • as well as many more.

It's great to see how quickly young ones learn how to play simple percussion instruments, such as:

  • tambourines,

  • bells,

  • xylophones

  • and shakers;

which help to develop hand - eye co-ordination and fine motor skills.

Toddlers also develop gross motor skills, such as:

  • walking,

  • balancing

  • and crawling,

using repetitive melodies and simple movement activities as well as the use of occasional props.

Watch your toddler's confidence grow week by week as they join in, at their own pace, whilst developing fun friendships with others in the class - and develop an even deeper bond with their parent/carer too.

3) Infant Workshops

Music helps us grow!

For: infants aged 4 to 7.

In these 45 minute workshops (spaces for 6 parents/carers and 6 children), I invite parents/carers to bring along their children aged 4 to 7 to our fun filled, music making workshops.

Our learning themes such as:

  • colours,

  • space,

  • sea,

  • seasons,

  • festivals,

  • letters

  • and numbers

help your child to develop language, numeracy and communication skills and to explore the world around them.

Our themes continue to develop as we use action songs, movement and instrument playing, whilst the children learning to play as a band and use more than one instrument during a song or piece of music.

Your little ones will enjoy many action songs like:

  • 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'

  • 'B-I-N-G-O',

  • 'Twinkle Twinkle'

  • plus many more

designed to develop movements, and to encourage their imagination and creativity.

It's amazing how quickly children learn how to play percussion instruments, such as:

  • tambourines,

  • cymbals

  • and shaped shakers;

helping hand - eye co-ordination and fine motor skills.

Through these sessions children will also develop gross motor skills, such as:

  • walking,

  • balancing

  • and crawling,

using simple music and movement activities as well as the use of props.

See your child become more adept at playing a variety of musical instruments and learn musical skills such as:

  • rhythm,

  • pace

  • and dynamics.

See your child's independence, confidence and social skills grow in these workshops.

What will the workshops look like?

Through carefully planned sessions we will use music as a tool, enabling us to explore a wide spectrum of experiences.

Using: visual prompts, images & PECs symbols, Makaton signing, simple colour coded notation and musical cues, we will engage in a musical journey, using 4 of the senses to expand your experiences.

Serenity Sensory Music workshops can evolve around an individual or group to best support their needs.

“A year from now you may wish you had started today.”
